Exodus 13:1-2;13;14-16 and Nehemiah 10:36
Re: The consecration or redeeming of the firstborn: Along with the firstfruits of every tree, crop, and harvest, the Israelite was to redeem his firstborn son and consecrate him to the Lord. "The firstborn of every womb, animals and man, is to be redeemed." "It will be like a sign on your hand and a symbol on your forehead that the Lord brought us out of Egypt with his mighty hand." Consecrate has a plethora of synonyms, among which is dedicate. Redeem is defined as a verb meaning to buy back or recover possession. I do not know the implications of this command to the Israelites. I suppose they were to bring that son, have him blessed in the temple, dedicate him to the Lord's service, then somehow redeem him to be able to return home with him. What does this mean to me, a 21st century Christian who has been grafted into God's family? I believe that Jesus, as God's firstborn male, without flaw, became the firstborn forever, to redeem me and consecrate me. As a mom with a firstborn son, as well as two other children, I do recognize that they belong first to God, and I need to honor him as I raise them. I need to bless them. I am grateful to Jesus above all else.

Today, Jan. 18, 2010:
I think I will explain my blog name: Larisa leans not. It is a reference to Proverbs 3:5-6:
Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge him,
And he will make your paths straight.*
*Proverbs 3:6 or ...will direct your paths.
There are many other passages that allude to the inability of man to comprehend the ways of God. This one, however, has great personal significance for me. At more than one time in my life, I have come to a point of complete bewilderment regarding a decision to make, or how to respond to another's decision when it affects me. So many times we are so afraid to make "the wrong" decision, afraid that God won't bless it or us. The promise that this proverb proves has been fulfilled in my life several times. I no longer try to see the picture God sees, which in so many instances is impossible. He has proven to me that if I will throw myself and my bewilderment on him, even if it's in anger, He can calm me, settle me, and show me a small step to take in the direction of his will.
In my profile statement, "I am an adult by age, a waif by nature, and a child of God by grace,"
the second statement is so true. If I lean on my own understanding, I am like a waif without purpose or direction. But if I walk in grace, and lean on God, even with tears of frustration and confusion on my face and in my heart, He makes me a child with a reason to continue.
I hope in some way this blesses any who read it. In Jesus!!!!

Re: Isaiah 62:1-5
For me, Larisa, this passage convicts me that all the things I believe would be good for me, but that I cannot motivate myself to do, will be blessed by God. He promises to always call me his bride (his Hephzibah), in whom He delights. He promises to not leave me as I am, but to invest himself in me so that I shine as a reflcetion of his love and joy; a wife who is plesaed to be loved and nurtured by a faithful husband.
Three things I believe I need to be doing are: 1. Rising early (Joining the "5 O'clock Club"),
2. Quiet time with God, Jesus, and his Spirit (Walking/Praying), and 3. Chores - Regular attention to household (Expression of faith and obedience).
Bless me in these, my Lord, my "husband." In Jesus, Amen!!!
